We sell replacement mounts to use Leica-R lenses on Nikon cameras.

Welcome to Leitax, this is our Leica-Nikon page. After the encouraging response from our first Leitax bayonet clients and several requests from Nikon users, we can offer this new replacement bayonet to use two cams, three cams, R-cam and ROM Leica-R lenses on Nikon bodies.

-This conversion is fully reversible and will not damage either the lens or the camera.
-The Leica-R lenses will focus to infinity and will maintain the aperture click stops
-The Nikon cameras will show a  focus confirmation light in the viewfinder.
-The professional Nikon cameras (D200 and up), and FujiFilm S5Pro, will meter in A and M modes (stop-down) the newer models can use Auto-Iso as well.
-Users of non professional Nikon cameras (D40, D80, D90, D5000, etc) can select Manual mode and check the histogram of a test shot to meter accurately. It is possible to meter with these cameras with a chip on the Leitax mount.

Some of the instructions you see on the left are for the Leica-Pentax bayonet. Just change the final step, installing the Leica for Nikon-F bayonet instead and you are ready to shoot with your Nikon or FujiFilm camera.

This Leica-R lenses will not clear the mirror slapping movement of any Nikon F-mount camera, no surgery solution is possible :

--Super Angulon    21mm f:3.4

The Summilux 35/1.4 can be shaved until it is possible to use this lens on APS- sized sensor and Full Frame Nikon cameras.

Nikon Z + FTZ adapter Here a picture of the new Nikon Z6 already using the Leica-R lenses with the Leitax mount ( with some help from the Nikon FTZ adapter)
Here you can read a complete report about this camera/lens combination.
- New! I've received confirmation that it is possible to use the Dandelion chip with the Z cameras while shooting video.

--------------------------------------------------------

The following lenses can be used only on APS-sized sensor cameras because the rear glass would hit the Full Frame camera's mirror, no surgery solution is possible :

--Elmarit       24mm f:2.8
--Fisheye-Elmarit  16mm f:2.8
--Super-Elmarit 15mm f.2.8

As far as I know , all the rest of Leica-R three cam lenses will not have problems with the mirror clearance matter.
If you discover another problematic lens, please let me know.
Elmarit 100 on Nikon D700 , no adapter

- You can see pictures taken with Leica-R lenses with modern digital cameras at the Leitax group at Flickr.

- The Visoflex 14127 adapter (Visoflex lens to Leica Camera) can be converted with the Leitax bayonet.
- The Visoflex 14167 adapter needs the same special Leitax bayonet that the Telyt 400-560/6.8 lens.

- It is possible to use the current Elmarit 19/2.8 on Full Frame cameras just shaving a bit the rear end of the lens, please take a look at this lens instructions.

CAUTION! A customer reports that the earlies (3624xxx) of the 3-cams Elmarit 28/2.8 current version units have a taller than usual rear end lens protection, and it will hit the mirror of Full Frame Nikon bodies. As you can see at the feedback page, a 366xxxx that is still a 3-cams unit is ok. The ROM version (s/n 3779xxx) has been tested on D3, and it works fine.

- I'm offering now a reversible custom conversion work for the Leica Zoom lenses with ROM contacts that are, in general, not suitable for direct bayonet replacement, please contact me for an estimate.
Of course, there is no problem with 3-cam Zoom lenses.

- It is possible to install the Leitax bayonet on the Leica Vario-Elmar-R 105-280/4.2 ROM and Vario-Apo-Elmarit 70-180/2.8 ROM, because these lenses are build the same way as the Leica ROM primes.

CAUTION! The first Nikon DSLR cameras: D100, D70, D70s, D2Hs and D2Xs models, seem to have a slightly bigger mirror than the rest of APS-sized sensor cameras. Thus, the Leica Elmarit 24/2.8, that barely clears the mirror movement on crop cameras, will hit the mirror on these models.

- We can use the telephoto lenses Telyt 400/6.8 and 560/6.8 on Nikon cameras with our new Leitax model for cine.

- My Telyt 400/6.8 is now a 640mm with autofocus

- I'm offering a special bayonet for the Apo-Summicron 180/2, to avoid removing its black internal tube.
- I have a special bayonet for the older Leica-R lenses with 1 cam.

We are selling and installing the Dandelion chip for Nikon on the Leitax mounts, with it you get:
- Metering with consumer-class Nikon cameras (D40, D50, D60, D80, D90, D3000, D5000..etc)
- If your camera has a 3D matrix meter, it will function as well.
- Fine calibration of focus confirmation dot.
- Correct focal length and max. aperture in Exif data.
- These are the programming instructions
- There are only three film cameras that Dandelion is not compatible with: F4, F60 and F90x.
- Programming mode is not compatible with F5 and D1X/H models.
- This is how I glue the chip on a Leitax mount.
- This is how to glue a chip on a Nikkor AI-S lens.

---- We are offering three variants of the Leica-Nikon bayonet:

1--- The normal variant with Full and Half stops at the aperture ring, just like the original Leica-R lenses are.
2--- The special variant with only Full stops. With it, you can compose the picture in the viewfinder and take all the pictures you like changing the diaphragm value many times and still knowing the value of the aperture ring, just counting the "clicks".  You don't have to remove your eye from the viewfinder to check the diaphragm value.
As an additional benefit, you can use 1/3 diaphragm values.
3-- The special variant with no F-stops. This one is intended for the film makers, who need a seamless aperture ring operation. Usually they remove the small ball to avoid the "clicks", but this is not good, there is a danger to destroy its spring and also this creates a new problem: the iris spring can move the aperture ring if there is nothing keeping it in place.
- New ! The Leica-Nikon mount with no F-stops for cine is now rotatable.

- The new design of the Leitax mount allows to preserve the tube-like shroud of the long focal Leica-R lenses.
- I've found a way to have precise hard stops at the final aperture ring positions on all Leica-R lenses
- A customer kindly informed that we can use matrix metering with adapted lenses on Nikon professional cameras     just filling the non-CPU lens data at the camera menu. The Dandelion chip is not needed to have this feature.

- From October 28th. 2013 , the Leitax mounts are compatible with the Nikon teleconverters
TC-14E II, TC-17E II and TC-20E II/III

- You can easily focus your Leica-R lens with the new Leitax mount with Auto-Aperture simulation, here the instructions.

- Please take a look at the first report about using the Leica-R lenses converted to Nikon-F with the Leitax mount on the new Nikon Z cameras, together with the Nikon FTZ adapter.

You can order the Leica-Nikon bayonet here.
Please check how many screws has the Leica original bayonet of your lens to order the appropriate replacement.

- The registered mail service is reliable but the delivery time is not very fast or even regular. If you need the Leitax mounts fast or you have a deadline I'd recommend the courier option.

With certain models, we'll have to manipulate inside the lens, it's not a good place for something metallic. With this plastic tool I don't make any scratches in the Leica lenses.
